You leave the ice with a feeling. HPT hands you the record — every shift, top speed, distance, heart rate, recovery — captured by the watch you already wear, on your phone before your skates are untied.
HPT isn’t on the App Store or Google Play yet; both apps are in live, invite-based beta. Request an invite, start free forever on Starter, or buy the Lifetime pass now and activate on launch day.
Comparing trackers? Our ice hockey tracker guide covers what one should actually capture, and what HPT records automatically.
The report
HPT turns every game, practice and stick time into a session report: the score and your stats, shift-by-shift skating data, season-long trends, and a read on how recovered you’ll be tomorrow. The frames below are straight from our App Store listing set, with real beta screens inside them.
Score, goals, assists, shots — and the sixteen shifts you actually skated. Log a session by hand, or let the watch write it for you while you play.
Automatic shift tracking gives you counts, longest, shortest and speed for every shift. The late-game fade shows up here before you feel it tomorrow. Curious what a good shift length even is? We wrote it up.
Acceleration bursts, sprint speed, first-step quickness: ten explosiveness readings per session, with trend lines across sessions to watch them climb. Hockey benchmarks tell you what good looks like.
Recovery readiness compares your HRV and resting heart rate to your 30-day baseline, and AI insights turn the whole session into plain-English advice on what to work on next.

How it works
STEP 01
An Apple Watch on watchOS 10.6+ with your iPhone, or a Wear OS 3 watch with your Android phone. There is nothing else to buy: the watch app and phone app do it all.
STEP 02
Auto start uses location, timers and heart rate: the session arms at the rink and begins when you hit the ice. Shift detection then captures the raw feed in the background (heart rate, speed, distance and more), the base for all 35 documented metrics.
STEP 03
The session lands on your phone the moment you end it: metrics, charts, goals, and on Pro an AI insight that tells you in plain English what to work on next.
Auto start and stop use location, timers and heart rate together: the session arms itself when you arrive at the rink and starts the moment you hit the ice. No more forgotten sessions because nobody pressed start.
Mid-game, the watch spots the moment you hop the boards and the moment you sit back down, logging live heart rate, speed, shift timer, acceleration bursts, distance and calories without you touching the screen once.
When you step off for the last time, the session closes itself and the full report is already on your phone.
No watch? Still countsYou can still log sessions manually with just your phone (scores, notes and the basics) on every plan, including free Starter.
The numbers
HPT tracks 35 documented performance metrics: 10 core, 10 cardiovascular, 5 heart-rate zones and 10 explosiveness. Every one is listed below, each counted once. The performance metrics page explains them in depth.

Who it’s for
Your young player sees their progress in speed, stamina and recovery, and you get clear data to keep training safe and balanced. Every personal best gets its moment.
Compare your hockey performance metrics, from speed and explosiveness to shift tracking, against players your age, skill level, and others in your league.
Track your growth across key metrics and show coaches and scouts measurable improvement over a season, not a highlight reel.
Give players clear, objective feedback on workload and progress, so hard conversations start from a chart instead of a hunch.
Also at the rinkSkating a comeback after an injury, or working games in stripes? There are dedicated guides for post-injury returns and officials & referees too.
HPT auto-detects other HPT skaters in your session, so there is nothing to pair or invite mid-game. After the buzzer, the who-was-slowest argument gets settled with an overlay chart of every skater’s speed, shift by shift.
Connect as friends to see each other’s sessions and trends, and talk trash (or tactics) in chat. Coaches use the same connection to check in on a player’s workload between skates.
Community leaderboards rank top speed, distance and Overall Performance Score, filterable by age group, level and league, plus a feed for personal bests. Some of the best metrics for beer-league players only get fun when someone else can see them.
Due diligence
We wrote the comparisons ourselves and kept them honest: where another tool wins, we say so. Start with what an ice hockey tracker should do, then read the head-to-heads.

An ice hockey tracker is a mobile app that uses your smartphone and smartwatch sensors to capture professional-level performance data during games and practices. Paired with a supported smartwatch, HPT automatically tracks 35 documented metrics including shift duration, speed, distance, and heart rate zones, and provides AI-powered insights to help you improve. It works with iPhone and Apple Watch, and with Android phones and Wear OS watches. Both betas are live now.
HPT isn't built to be a stats app; it's a performance tracker. Plenty of apps stop at the box score (goals, assists, plus-minus), and HPT can log those too, but its real focus is the performance metrics underneath your game: 35 documented measures of speed, distance, shifts, heart rate, recovery, and explosiveness, captured automatically with a supported watch. Add AI insights, personalized recommendations from your own patterns, support for 14 languages, and community features like leaderboards and friend connections. All of it is ad-free, with Pro at $7.99/month.
The iOS and Android betas are now live with users testing them daily to resolve bugs and better calibrate metric tracking. The official App Store and Google Play launches will follow.
You can log basic sessions manually without a watch. Full speed, distance, heart-rate, shift, recovery, and explosiveness metrics require a supported smartwatch: an Apple Watch on watchOS 10.6 or later, or a Wear OS 3 watch. The watch sensors provide the movement and heart rate data needed for comprehensive tracking.
Absolutely. We use industry-standard encryption to protect your data both in transit and at rest. Your performance data is private and secure.
Today, HPT is designed for individual players, and a team Coach's Dashboard is on our roadmap. In the meantime, a coach can connect with players through the Connect Friend feature to see each player's data.
