Everything you need to know about HPT
Getting Started
When will the app be released?
We are on track for a public launch in Early Fall 2025. Join the waitlist to get notified and receive an exclusive early-bird discount!
What is the 'waitlist'?
By joining the waitlist, you're signing up to be notified via email when Hockey Performance Tracker launches. You'll be the first to know and will get a special discount code as a thank you for your early support.
Is my data secure?
Absolutely. We use industry-standard encryption to protect your data both in transit and at rest. Your performance data is private and secure.
Can I use this for my whole team?
While the app is designed for individual players at launch, our roadmap does have a "Coach's Dashboard" for team management. In the meantime, a coach can connect with his/her players via the "Connect Friend" functionality. This will allow the coach to see all of the player's data.
Compatibility & Devices
Which devices are supported?
Mobile: iOS 15+ and Android 11+. Wearables: Apple Watch Series 3+ (watchOS 9+) and Wear OS 3+ watches. A paired watch unlocks full skating metrics.
Can I use my account on both iPhone and Android?
Yes—your account is tied to your email. Log in on any supported device and your data will sync automatically.
Do I need a smartwatch?
Yes, a smartwatch (Apple Watch or Wear OS) is required to collect performance data. Without a watch, you can only manually log basic session information like goals and assists.
Is the watch app included with HPT?
Yes! The watch app is included free with your HPT mobile app subscription. No additional purchase needed.
Can I use just the watch without my phone?
Yes! The watch app can track complete sessions independently. Data syncs to your phone when reconnected.
Which metrics show on the watch?
Real-time heart rate, shift timer, speed, distance, calories, and heart rate zones. Full analysis available on phone.
Will it drain my watch battery?
HPT is optimized for efficiency. Most watches can track 5-8 games on a single charge (depending on length of game and device type).
Features & Data
How does the AI actually work?
Our models compare your session data to your own history and anonymized peers of similar age/skill, then surface patterns and convert them into actionable tips.
Is HPT useful for goalies?
Yes—goalies track heart-rate zones, push explosiveness, and drill-by-drill intensity today.
What metrics are tracked in each session?
HPT tracks over 40 metrics per session including ice time, speed metrics, heart rate data, distance covered, acceleration bursts, fatigue index, and recovery metrics. Sessions are automatically categorized as game, practice, training (and many others). You can also capture your own goals, assists, plus/minus, shots, and PIM.
Can I track sessions without a wearable device?
Yes! You can manually enter session data including location, duration, goals, assists, and a few others. Unfortunately, no health or performance metrics can be captured without a wearable.
How does automatic session detection work?
HPT uses accelerometer data and machine learning to detect when you transition from bench to ice; in short, it looks at acceleration and movement patterns to identify the start of a shift.
Can I edit sessions after they're recorded?
Yes! You can add or edit game stats and notes after a session. You can delete an entire session or individual shifts, if needed. By design, the only way to delete raw performance data is to delete an entire session or a shift. This was implemented to ensure data integrity and accurate historical tracking.
Can I export my data or share reports?
"Player" Tier users can export CSV files for data analysis—perfect for coaches, trainers, or scouts. Additionally, chart data can be copied from within the app.
How long does it take to see performance trends?
You'll see initial trends after 5-10 sessions. Meaningful long-term trends become apparent after 4-6 weeks of regular tracking. The more data you collect, the more accurate your trend analysis becomes.
What performance categories can I track?
HPT tracks three main categories: Core Performance (speed, distance, effort), Cardiovascular (heart rate, VO₂ max, recovery), and Explosiveness (acceleration, power output).
Can I compare my stats to other players?
Yes! HPT shows how you rank against players in your age group, position, skill level, and even the league that you play in (among other filter options!).
How are leaderboard rankings calculated?
There are different types of rankings. The Overall Performance Score (OPS) is a proprietary score developed by HPS, which combines and normalizes multiple metrics into one overall OPS score. Additionally, rankings are available for specific metrics like Average Speed, VO₂ Max, Heart Rate Variability (HRV), and many others.
Can I stay anonymous on leaderboards?
Yes! You can choose to display a username instead of your real name while still tracking your stats privately.
What achievements can I earn?
Earn trophies for milestones like 'Fastest Shift', 'Longest Game Distance', and many more. That said, we are still tweaking these!
How do I find players at my skill level?
That's easy! We designed our leaderboards to allow you to filter players by age group, skill level, position, country, and even league! With that said, make sure to update your profile!
Do college scouts really care about performance data?
Absolutely. Modern recruitment increasingly values objective data. Players who track and understand their metrics show maturity and commitment to improvement that coaches value. Many D1 programs now ask for fitness metrics during recruitment.
What metrics matter most for recruitment?
Speed (top and average), VO₂ max, and recovery metrics are universally important. Position-specific metrics also matter: acceleration and agility for forwards, gap control and transition speed for defensemen, lateral movement for goalies.
How does HPT compare to team tracking systems?
HPT complements team systems by providing personal data you own and control. Track additional sessions, summer training, and maintain consistency across teams. Your data follows you through your hockey journey.
Can I share data with my coach?
Yes! When HPT launches, you'll be able to connect with your coach as a friend in the app to share your performance data. Export your metrics as CSV files for training discussions and development planning.
Integrations
Does HPT sync with Apple Health or Google Fit?
Yes—workout summaries, heart-rate, active energy, and VO₂ estimates write back automatically (with your permission) so everything stays in one place.
Plans & Pricing
What are the plan differences?
Please reference the pricing information on the home page for full details on each plan.
Can I cancel or change plans anytime?
Yes—manage your subscription in the App Store or Google Play. You keep Pro features until the current billing period ends.
Do you offer team plans?
While the app is designed for individual players, our roadmap includes a "Coach's Dashboard" for team management. In the meantime, coaches can connect with their players via the "Connect Friend" functionality, allowing them to view all player data. Contact our team for more information and to discuss your specific needs.
Privacy & Security
Is my performance data secure and private?
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). You control if/when to share reports, and you can export or delete data anytime. We never sell personal data.
Who owns my data?
You do—HPT is the data processor.
How can I delete my account and all of the data?
You can request to delete your account and data from with the app; specifically, you can submit the request from Settings → Delete Account.
Support
How do I get help?
You can get support in-app (Settings → Support) or email support@hpt.pro. You can also submit the contact form.
