TL;DR — what hockey family plans change
Hockey family plans put HPT Pro on two to four players in one checkout on hpt.pro: $99.99 to $159.99 a year, or $374 to $624 once for Lifetime. Every player gets their own code, their own account and their own history. Starter stays free forever. And what you pay does more than unlock features: it keeps HPT growing toward the thing we actually care about, a hockey community where the app is only one piece.
Hockey family plans are the simplest way to put Pro on everyone in your house who plays. But we did not build them only to sell more seats. We built them because hockey is a family sport long before it is a data sport, and because the community we want to grow starts with the people who drive to the rink together.
Hockey Is a Family Sport First
If you have a hockey family, you know the shape of the week. Early ice for one player, a late practice for another, a parent squeezing in a beer league game after everyone else is asleep. The gear bags multiply. So do the bills.
A tracking app should not be one more line item that forces a choice about which player gets it. Until now, putting Pro on three players meant three separate plans at full price. Family plans fix that: one checkout, one price for the whole group, and a lower cost per player the more players you add.
The other reason is simpler. Hockey is more fun when the people around you can see what you are working on. A parent who plays on Thursday nights and a teenager in a club program are chasing different things, but they speak the same language: shifts, speed, how the legs felt in the third period. Putting them on the same plan makes that conversation easier to have.
How Hockey Family Plans Work
You buy a family plan on hpt.pro/family, not in the app. Pick Annual or Lifetime, choose how many players, and check out once. Prices below are the total for everyone together, not a price per player:
| Players | Annual (per year) | Lifetime (one time) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 player | $69.99 | $249 |
| 2 players | $99.99 (save 29%) | $374 (save 25%) |
| 3 players | $129.99 (save 38%) | $499 (save 33%) |
| 4 players | $159.99 (save 43%) | $624 (save 37%) |
The savings compare the family price with buying each player their own plan. Put another way: on Annual, each extra player adds $30 a year. On Lifetime, each extra player adds $125 once. With four players on Annual, that works out to about $40 per player per year.
- Every player gets a code. After checkout you receive one code per player. Each player redeems their code in the HPT app on their own account.
- Every player keeps their own account. Sessions, history and settings stay with the player who recorded them. A family plan shares the price, not the data.
- Annual seats run from the purchase date, not from the day a code is redeemed, and the plan renews each year until you cancel.
- Monthly has no family option. Family plans are Annual or Lifetime.
- Five or more players? Contact HPT and we will work it out with you.
- Already on Pro? You do not pay for your own seat again. If you have Pro Annual through the App Store or Google Play (renewing, and past any free trial), or you own Lifetime, go to Add players and enter your account email. We email you a link, and each extra player costs $30 a year on Annual or $125 once on Lifetime. Pro Monthly and free-trial accounts buy a regular family plan instead.
One thing to watch: a code does not cancel a subscription you already pay for through the App Store or Google Play. If someone in your house is moving from a store subscription to a family seat, cancel the old subscription in your store settings.
What Each Player Gets with Pro
Every seat is full Pro, the same plan you would buy on your own. That means:
- Unlimited history and all trend data, so a whole season of progress stays visible, not just the last month.
- Every analytical metric, including explosiveness (how often you accelerate hard, and how fast those bursts are) and work-to-rest ratio (how long you skate against how long you sit). The full list is on the performance metrics page.
- Recovery Readiness, a daily read on how recovered you are, built from heart rate variability (HRV, the small changes in time between heartbeats) and resting heart rate compared with your own 30-day average.
- AI-powered insights on every session, which turn the numbers into plain-language notes on what to work on next.
- Friends, chat and full leaderboard filtering, which is where the community side of HPT opens up.
Paired with an Apple Watch or a Wear OS watch, HPT records sessions and shifts automatically. Nobody has to remember to press start on the bench. The watch app page covers what each device captures.
Starter Stays Free Forever
Family plans are for when Pro has earned its place in your house. They are not a ticket to belong.
Starter is free forever, with no ads. It includes automatic session logging, a limited set of core and cardiovascular metrics, a 30-day rolling history, personal goal setting and a read-only leaderboard rank. Every new account also starts with a free 30-day Pro trial: full access, no credit card, and it simply ends.
Our advice for families: let everyone start on Starter and use the trial. See who keeps wearing the watch to the rink and who actually opens the app after a game. Then buy a family plan for the players who will use it. Nobody has to pay to get started: Starter players see where they rank on the leaderboards too.
Where Your Money Goes
We want to be straightforward about this part. HPT has no ads on any plan, Starter included, so the product is funded by the people who choose to pay for it. And running HPT costs real money every single day, whether or not anyone is on the ice.
What it costs to keep HPT running
- AI Insights. Every insight HPT writes about a session comes from an AI model, and every one of those requests is billed. The more sessions players record, the more it costs.
- Google APIs and cloud services. Parts of the app run on paid Google APIs and other cloud services that charge by how much they are used.
- Servers and storage. Every session, shift and heart rate reading has to be received, processed, stored and kept safe, for every player, for as long as they keep their history.
- Subscription management. Keeping track of who has Pro across the App Store, Google Play and hpt.pro runs on a service that charges for that work.
- Store and payment fees. Apple and Google take a share of every subscription bought in the app, and even a purchase on hpt.pro carries a payment processing fee.
- The team's time. The biggest cost of all is every hour the team puts into HPT: building and testing two separate watch apps for Apple Watch and Wear OS, shipping the app in 14 languages, fixing bugs, answering support emails and building the features players ask for.
Family plans are sold on hpt.pro rather than through the app stores, so more of what you pay goes into building HPT itself instead of to a store's commission. It is the most efficient way to support the project.
A Lifetime family plan is the most direct way to back that work. An Annual plan is the right call if you would rather see how the season goes first. Either way, you are helping keep HPT independent and growing.
The App Is One Piece of the Community
Here is the part that matters most to us. HPT started as a way to track shifts. But the best parts of hockey have never been the stats. They are the car rides to the rink, the bench after a hard shift, the parent in the stands, the teammate who checks in after a bad game, the pickup skate where nobody keeps score until somebody does.
Our goal is to help every player, at every level, get better through their own data and through the people around them. The app is the piece we can build first, and it is only one piece.
What community looks like in HPT today
- Friends you choose (Pro). Both players have to accept a connection, and either one can disconnect at any time. Connected friends can compare stats side by side and follow each other's sessions.
- Chat. Pro players can message connected friends directly, whether that is a training plan or an argument about who is really faster.
- Fair leaderboards. The Overall Performance Score (OPS), a single composite score built from your performance across sessions, ranks players globally and locally, with filters for age, skill level and location so you compare yourself with players like you. The community and leaderboards page explains how it works.
- Trophies and privacy. Achievements unlock automatically as you play, and an anonymous mode is there for anyone who would rather not appear by name.
For a family, this is where the plan pays off twice. A parent and a player who are connected as friends can see each other's progress without either one having to send a screenshot. Siblings can compare their numbers side by side. And the conversation after a game can start from what actually happened on the ice.
Where we want to take it
We want HPT to connect more of hockey: players with teammates, families with the rinks they live at, beer league benches with the players they skate against every week. We do not have every answer yet, and we would rather build the next pieces with the community than for it.
So if you have an idea of what would bring your team, your rink or your family closer together, tell us. Feedback from players has shaped HPT since the beta, and it will shape what comes next.
Keeping Family Pricing Fair
Family pricing only works if it stays family pricing, so a few rules come with it:
- Seats are for members of your immediate family or household. Codes are not for resale or transfer.
- Unused codes are not refundable.
- Lifetime comes with a 60-day money-back guarantee. For a Lifetime family seat to be refundable, it must be redeemed within 60 days of purchase. The refund policy has the details.
These rules are what let us keep the per-player price low for the families who use it as intended.
Getting Your Family Started
- Get the app on every player's phone and create an account. Everyone starts on Starter with the free 30-day Pro trial.
- Pair a watch for anyone who wants automatic shift tracking.
- Choose Annual or Lifetime on the family plans page and select the number of players.
- Hand out the codes. Each player redeems their own code in the HPT app.
- Connect as friends so you can follow each other's progress and compare on the leaderboards.
If you are still deciding between plans, the pricing page compares Starter, Pro and Lifetime side by side.
Family Plan Questions
Does each player need their own HPT account?
Yes. Each player redeems their own code on their own account, so their sessions, history and settings stay theirs.
Can I buy a family plan in the app?
No. Family plans are sold on hpt.pro. Pro Monthly and Annual for a single player are still available in the app through the App Store or Google Play.
What if we already pay for Pro through the App Store or Google Play?
If your Pro Annual renews through the App Store or Google Play, or you own Lifetime, use Add players on hpt.pro to add players for $30 a year each (Annual) or $125 each (Lifetime) without paying for your own seat again. Pro Monthly and free-trial accounts buy a regular family plan. A family code does not cancel a store subscription, so cancel any subscription you no longer need in your store settings.
Can a family plan cover more than four players?
Family plans cover up to four players in one checkout. For five or more, contact HPT.
Is there still a free option?
Yes. Starter is free forever with no ads, and every new account starts with a free 30-day Pro trial with no credit card.
